The curriculum emphasizes milling and squaring rough lumber, establishing foundational skills for furniture construction. Topics include wood characteristics, grain selection, and finishing techniques. Each student completes a custom cutting board during the course, applying the fundamental skills taught throughout the session. Mitered Box This course focuses on precision joinery and design principles through the construction of a small decorative box. Students learn grain selection and orientation, mitered corner joinery, rabbet cutting, lid fitting with handmade pulls, and miter joint glue-up techniques. The curriculum covers proportion and balance in small-scale projects and finishing methods to enhance the completed piece. Suitable for beginners building foundational skills or experienced woodworkers refining their craft. Live Edge Floating Shelf Students construct custom floating shelves with concealed mounting hardware in this project-based course. Instruction covers inlaying shelf bracket hardware using drills, templates, and routers. Additional topics include live edge treatments, sanding techniques, finishing applications, and proper installation methods. The course emphasizes the technical skills required for achieving a clean, professional floating shelf installation. Spoon Carving This hands-on carving class, taught by guest instructor Nate Matlack of Matlack Fine Woodworking, guides students through the process of carving functional wooden spoons. Participants learn fundamental carving techniques from initial shaping to detail refinement.
